Brownsville Merchants Fined for Doing Business on Sunday

Twelve small Jewish merchants of Brownsville were arraigned in Brooklyn for violating the Sunday law, having been served with summonses by policement who found their shops open on Sunday. They were fined $5 each by Hagistrate O’Neil who warned that the penalty for a second offence would be heavier. The magistrate did not admit the defendents’ plea that they kept their places of business closed on Saturday.
