Lord Sydenham today asked that the government make public its correspondence with Sheriff of Mecca now King Hussein in which, he said, England has pledged itself to create a United Arab State. The Arabs, Lord Sydenham stated, would prefer to live under Turkish rule than under a Zionist regime.

Replying, the Duke of Devonshire stated the publication of these documents at this time would be “detrimental to the public interest”. His own investigation of these documents has shown, moreover, that it was never intended to include Palestine in any of the pledges given to the Arabs.
