A serious financial stringency is facing the Hadassah, with the curtalment of many of the activities of the organization looming unless some way is found of covering the accumulating deficit.

The Hadassah may be forced to close all of its hospitals with the exception of the Rothschild Hospital in Jerusalem. The crisis is the result of the discontinuance by the Joint Distribution Committee of its subsidies. The Keren Hayesod, too, is not supplying enough to rehabilitate its crippled finances. The sanitation work of the hospitals is now being performed by the Palestinian government, with funds supplied by the J.D.C.
