Rabbi Chaim Nahoum, former Chief Rabbi of Turkey, has been called to occupy the post of Chief Rabbi of Egypt.

Rabbi Nahoum who still retains the Turkish title “Effendi” conferred upon him during Abdul Hamid times, and who was one of Kemal’s advisors at Lausanne, though in an “unofficial capacity”, has just arrived here and announced he is proceeding to Angora to take leave of Government officials there.

The Jewish community of Cairo has long wished the former “Haham Daschi” of Turkey to minister to its spiritual needs. He was unanimously elected Chief Rabbi for Egypt some few years ago when a delegation was sent to him to extend the personal invitation.
