Jews who do not pay the special tax for the Keren Hayesod will not be buried on the Jewish cemeteries, according to a decision of the Jewish communities of Bulgaria. This step, with regard to the Palestine Foundation Fund, taken by Bulgarian Jewish leaders, has aroused the interest of Bulgarian Jewry.
After the Zionists had been victorious in a majority of the Kehillahs in Bulgaria, they introduced the special tax, by increasing the usual membership tax in the Kehillah 200%. The majority of the Jewish population gladly pays this extra charge. Only one Kehillah member objected to it, and especially to the clause which calls for the non-burial on Jewish cemeteries of those who refuse to pay it. He has protested to the headquarters of the Keren Hayesod in London as well as to other Jewish organizations.
