Prussian Minister of Education Introduces Discriminatory Policy Against Jewish Teachers

Download PDF for this date

What is considered to be a decisive violation of the constitutional principle guaranteeing the equality of rights to all citizens of the German Republic is holding the attention of the German Jewish communal leaders, particularly of the Jewish teachers in Berlin.

The school council of the city of Berlin has elevated one of its staff members, a Jewish teacher, to the position of superintendent. Following this appointment, the Russian Minister of Education, Boelitz, a member of the anti-Semitic Voelkischer Partei, instructed all school authorities in Prussia not to appoint to such positions Jews.

The Jewish teachers in Berlin have submitted their protest against the decision, terming it a direct violation of the constitutional privilege of equality. The Kehilla of Berlin has taken a great interest in this case and a special meeting was convened for the purpose of considering the course of action to be taken.
