The New York Times of Saturday, Oct. 25, printed the following telegram from Mexico:
“A group of Jewish colonists from Austria. Germany. Russia, Roumania and Bohemia, refused admission to the United States, have come to Mexico. Their expenses were advanced by a Hebrw synagogue in New York. It is said they will remain here until admission to the United States is arranged.
The colonists say they came to Mexico because of statements made by General Calles, President-elect, that he personally favored Jewish immigration.
A second group, now held at Ellis Island. New York, will also be brought to Mexico, Jews in New York City have promised to pay all their expenses until they are entitled to enter the United States.”
According to inquiries made by the Jewish Daily Bulletin. officers of the HIAS American Emergency Committee on Jewish Refugees. no Jewish emigrants have been diverted from New York.
