Replying to Senator La Follette’s statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today, Louis Marshall says:
“I have read the statement of Senator Robert M. La Follette in which he comments on my criticism of his connection with Senate Document No. 346, introduced by him, ordered primed on his motion, and circulated throughout the country more than a year ago under his franking privilege. His campaign director, Mr. Roe, concedes that this document contains disparaging allusions to the Jews and Chechs, thus confirming the charge recently made by me. The Senator admits that the document was circulated under his own franking privilege. He now asserts that when he learned the character of the document he repudiated it and ordered that his frank should be no longer used for its circulation. It was not, however, until nearly a year after the libelous publication had been sent out broadcast and after a storm of protests had been evoked by it, that the attempt to stop the flight of this poisoned arrow was made.
“The Senator now says that the Congressional Record shows that he had been assured by one of his fellow-members of the Senate that the document contained valuable information, that be did not have (??………..)
