Dr. Emanuel de Mornay Baruch, professor of bacteriology, returned on the S.S. “Majestic” from Austria and Germany, where he studied and lectured in the clinics on the treatment of cancer and tuberculosis.
Professor Baruch, before leaving Germany, gave a dinner on October 17 in the Beethoven Hall of the Hotel Adlon, in honor of Germany’s president, Ebert.
Other guests at the dinner were Professor Dr. Marx; German Minister of Defense, Dr. Gessler; B. Dawes, Ambassador, Count Brockdorf Rantzou; Dr. Wirth; Professor Ernst; F. Staalforth, an American banker; and Herr von Winterfeld.
Progress has been made in Germany in the cure of tuberculosis, especially in checking the disease in young persons, Professor Baruch declared. The patients are innoculated with a vaccine in the same manner as is done for typhoid and smallpox.
