The hunger strike, declared several days ago at the Atlantic Hotel by the 237 stranded immigrants in protest against the refusal of the White Star Line to maintain them here until visas to the United States are granted, has been successfully arbitrated by the French Government, it is reported.
Due to the intervention of the French Government, it has been agreed that the White Star Line refund all moneys collected from the immigrants and that the more impoverished immigrants be maintained at Cherbourg at the expense of a fund to be raised for that purpose, until plans can be made for the continuation of their journey.
