Salim Abdul Rachman, the son of the Mayor of Tulkeram and leader of the local Moslem-Christian Association, was acquitted today of a charge of being the head of a robber band operating in the Tulkeram-Nablus district.

Abdul Rachman’s arrest has been the subject of continued representation to the Government by the Palestine Arab Executive, and a few days ago the editor of the official organ of the Arab Executive, the “Falastin”, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment or a fine of £50 for making statements with regard to the proceedings against Abdul Rachman which were calculated to prejudice the trial.

The Government has lodged an appeal against the acquittal.
