Jerusalem (Dec. 19)
Preparations are under way for the opening by Chanukah of the Institute for Jewish Studies, the first of the “humanities” faculties to be established on Mount Scopus as part of the Hebrew University. The University conference held in London in July agreed on the professors to be invited for the first term and authorized Dr. J. L. Magnes, now in Jerusalem, to take all necessary steps for the opening of the Institute.
According to the provisional syllabus, the Institute will include the following departments: Hebrew Aramaic Philology, Arabic Culture and Civilization, Talmud, Archaeological Study of Palestine, Jewish History, Hebrew Literature, Sociology, Jewish Philosophy. The following professors have agreed to teach the first term: Professor M. L. Margolis, Professor Guttman and Dr. S. Klein.
During the second term, Ch. N. Bialik, the Hebrew Poet Laureate and Dr. Leib will lecture. A number of other scholars will soon be added to the present staff.
