The story of a supposed romance between Juliana, Dutch princess, and Canfor Elvira of the Amsterdam Synagogue, which originated in Germany and was widely reprinted in the American press, is nothing but fiction, according to circles closely connected with the Dutch royal family.
The representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here was asked to deny the story. All Holland was indignant at the circulation of such a report, which was termed “an insane, sensational story.”
The alleged hero of the romance, Cantor Elvira, does not exist. Juliana, the Princess, is not fifteens years old and has visited the Amsterdam synagogue only once, on an official visit with her mother, the Queen, on April 1, 1924.
A most interesting fact is that there is no such paper in existence as the “Frankiurter Abendblatt” from which the story was first “quoted.”
