The sum of $450,000, representing the Wisconsin quota of the $15,000,000 drive of the Joint Distribution Committee, which is $300,000, and the Wisconsin quota of $150,000 of the $5,000,000 United Palestine Appeal will be sought in a drive to be launched here on April 13.
Both drives will be joined in this state in one united appeal under one organization, headed by Oscar Greenwald as general chairman, and consisting of representatives of both appeals.
Decision to unite in a joint drive was reached at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Wisconsin United Jewish drive and the Executive Committee of the Wisconsin United Palestine Appeal drive. The decision to hold the joint drive was unanimous.

The House Election Committee began the hearing Tuesday on the contest of Dr. William I. Sirovich for the seat of Congressman Perlman of the Fourteenth Congressional District, New York. Dr. Sirovich, who ran on the Democratic ticket, claims the official return showing Congressman Perlman won by six votes is wrong and that a recount will show that he defeated Perlman.
A total of 670,000 Bibles were placed in hotels by the Gideons, an American Christian society which has for its purpose the placing of Bibles in hotels, since this service was started 15 years ago, it is announced, and in the last six months 22,000 have been placed in the United States and 800 in Canada. The society has exhausted the financial resources with which it operated for some years.
“From various parts of the country we are continually receiving requests for Bibles to be used by hotel guests, and are far behind in complying with them,” it was stated at the Gideon office in Chicago.
“Owners of hotels always have been friendly, but now there seems to be an increasing desire to have the Bibles.”
H.F. Guggenheim, President of the Daniel Guggenheim Fund for the Promotion of Aeronautics, sailed on the Italian liner Duilio, to study the development of civil aviation in Europe.
JEWISH COMMUNAL ACTIVITIES
The community of Donora, Pa, dedicated a annex to its synagogue. The annex will serve as a Jewish community center.
Mr. Mose Miller was chairman of the Building Committee: Mr. Max Cornich, president of the Ohav Sholom Congregation, and Dr. Maurice H. Heatter, chairman of the Finance Committee. Rabbi Gilbert Elefant is minister of the congregation.
The building committee of the Adas Kodesch Center, at Wilmington, Del, has authorized David Lee, of Allentown. Pa., to draw up plans and specification for the building. Funds for the structure were raised during a recent campaign. The members of the committe are: Charles Topkis chairman: Joseph Stone, Dr. I. K. Kreshtool, Louis Rosen blatt, Abraham Topkis and Abraham Silver.
Strengthening of Orthodox institutions and their interests is to be the purpose of a union of Orthodox Congregations of Cleveland, undertaken by the rabbis of six of the leading Orthodox congregations in Cleveland.
The proposal grows out of the Kashrorh problem, which has been discussed at several meetings of these rabbis. Other communal matters to be considered are those pertaining to education, dietary laws, and the Sabbath.
The new organization is to be known as the Agudath Ha’khiloth. Among the rabbis who are leading in the movement are Rabbi Israel Porath. Rabbi Hyman F. Epstein, Rabbi Eister Paley, and Rabbi Samuel Sachs.
Six thousand six hundred and forty dollars toward the quora of $10,000 to be raised by the Jewish community of New Bedford, Mass., for the United Palestine Appeal, was subscribed at a meeting at which the campaign was launched.
