Leon Feraru, the well known Roumanian Jewish poet, a member of the faculty of Columbia University, New York, who recently visited Roumania and was instrumental in organizing the Society of the Friends of the United States, was appointed by the Roumanian Government as honorary counsul of New York. His appointment, signed by the King, was published in the Official Gazette.
Leon Feraru, in an interview with the representative of the “Jewish Daily Bulletin” in New York declared: “I have accepted the appointment as honorary Consul of New York with the view of serving my native country and its people and promoting their interests. As a Jew, I am deeply interested in the fate of my brethren, and shall do all I can to serve them and their interests to the best of my ability.”
Mr. Leo Wolfson, president of the United Roumanian Jews in America, commenting on the appointment of Mr. Feraru, stated: “I greet Leon Feraru’s appointment with pleasure. I know him well and I am sure that he will serve both Roumanian and Jewish interests, because he is a good Roumanian, and a better Jew.”
