A description of the situation of the Jewish population in the Republic of Czechoslovakia was given by Dr. Alfred Benes, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in an interview granted to the Jewish newspaper representatives here.
The Foreign Minister expressed regret at the fact that due to irregularities committed by governmental officials during the last elections, the number of Jewish representatives in the Czechoslovakian parliament was diminished.
“The government will in the future take measures to prevent the possibility of such abuses,” he stated, adding that the Czechoslovakian government never fails to show its favorable attitude toward Zionism in the country and in the international arena. In League of Nations quarters the Czechoslovakian government furthers the demands of the Zionist Executive, he declared.
Outside of this, there is no Jewish question in Czechoslovakia. The Jews are even recognized as a separate nationality, he stated.
At a press reception given by the Czechoslovakian embassy, Dr. Benes emphasized that Zionism is a world conciliating solution of the Jewish problem.
