A number of stores, the owners of which are Moslems, were closed here yesterday, following the proclamation of a strike by Arab nationalist leaders as a protest against Henri de Jouvenel, French High Commissioner of Syria, who arrived here Monday as the guest of the Palestine government.
The French High Commissioner, accompanied by four of his advisors, was met at the station by Sir Ronald Storrs, governor of Jerusalem, and escorted to the Government House on the Mount of Olives. A state reception given in his honor last night was boycotted by the Moslem notables of Jerusalem.
Order was not disturbed throughout the day, which was unusually quiet as it was the first day of the Passover Feast.
The French High Commissioner conferred with the various department heads of the Palestine Government concerning the bringing about of greater cooperation between the governments of Palestine and Syria.
