Philadelphia Launches United Palestine Appeal Drive for $375,000 Quota

The sum of $130,000 was subscribed by the Jewish community of this city as its initial contribution to the quota of $375,000 for the United Palestine Appeal, at a dinner Sunday night.

More than 600 attended the dinner, at which Dr. Stephen S. Wise, chairman of the Appeal, delivered the principal address.

Judge William M. Lewis, chairman of the Philadelphia campaign, acted as toastmaster.

The campaign will continue in Philadelphia until May 12.

Three hundred prominent Philadelphia Jews are giving their entire time to the city-wide canvass. Twelve hundred men and women have been organized into teams and groups.

Jewish women are playing an important part in the campaign, forty-four teams having been allotted to them.

Assisting Judge Lewis are: Mrs. Benjamin L. Rubinsohn, vice-chairmen; Charles Lipshutz, treasurer; Sol C. Kraus and Mrs. Max Haupt, chairman and associate chairman of the Committee on Organization of Teams; Jacob Edelstein, chairman of the Revision Committee; Benjamin F. Miller, chairman of the Committee on Organization; Rabbi Simon Greenberg, chairman of the Speakers’ Committee; Robert M. Bernstein, Joseph Caplan, Benjamin M. Golder, Israel Grossman, and Rabbi Max D. Klein.

On the Executive Board are Dr. Joseph L. Langbord, Martin O. Levy, Myer Lichtenstein, Albert H. Lieberman, David Markovitz, Jules E. Mastbaum, Hiram J. Maxim, William Portner, and Adolph Wachs.

Jules E. Mastbaum made the largest individual contribution at the dinner, subscribing $10,000. Among the other large contributors were:
