A statement issued by the Polish Legation in Washington declared:
“Rumors about excesses and pogroms of an anti-Jewish character and looting of stores are entirely false. Not one store has been plundered and not a single Jew has been killed in Warsaw. In all Poland, perfect calm and order reign, with all public offices functioning normally.
“The Bank of Poland announces its gold reserve, foreign currencies and notes and all other assets are absolutely intact.
“Marshal Pilsudski, who is in control of Warsaw, has issued statements in which he declares his whole action was aimed at bringing about the resignation of the Witos cabinet, and that he never intended to overthrow the president or the constitution. He further states that in advancing on Warsaw at the head of troops which had rallied to him he had hoped that the Witos government would resign without bloodshed. Having been attacked by Government forces, he says, he was forced to fight.
“All rumors of looting and pillaging are entirely devoid of any foundation. Marshal Pilsudski further declares the sensational news about fighting in Poland, published in the foreign press, is greatly exaggerated.”
