Paul M. Winter, Ku Klux Klan organizer for Philadelphia county, announced today that “Senators, Governors, and other civic and patriotic leaders from all over the country” will speak at the national klonvokation here September 9. 10 and 11.
Details of the klonvokation are being planned at a secret headquarters in this city. Winter, in explaining why the address of the headquarters is kept secret, said Klan officials “don’t want every person who has an enemy calling on them to right wrongs or mingle in their difficulties.”
An interesting disclosure in connection with the parade the Klan will stage September 11 through the city and the Sesqui-Centennial grounds, is the fact that many foreign-born Americans of the Protestant faith, are expected to be in the line of march as members of a branch of the Klan known as the American Krusaders.
There is a good deal of speculation in this city as to how many persons the Klan will be able to muster for the parade, and it is no secret that the officials of the Klan are making every effort to get as great a turnout as possible to refute rumors of waning strength.
From Sesqui-Centennial officials it was leaned the Klan will be compelled to unmask during the parade.
“The Klan, like the Shriners or any other civic or patriotic group will receive the same courtesies during their convention that we accord to all.” said A. L. Sutton, a Sesqui official.
According to Winter the “Senators and Governors” who will speak at the Klan sessions will also march in the parade.
“During the march.” said Winter. “not a man, woman or child in the ranks will be allowed to speak. The marchers will look straight ahead and it is my confident expectation that the country will be surprized and enlightened at the real meaning of our organization.”
Among the speakers will be Hiram Wesley Evans. Imperial Wizard of the Klan. Americanism is to be the theme of the three-day session according to Winter. A new Wizard also will be elected.
