The situation of Russian Jewry and the relief work of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in assisting the colonization movement, were described by Jacob Billikopf and Dr. Joseph A. Rosen at a press conference here.

The conference was arranged by the office of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Berlin and representatives of the German press, foreign correspondents and Jewish newspapermen were present.

Mr. Billikopf described his impressions of the reconstruction work of the Joint Distribution Committee in Poland and in Russia. The Soviet government has a sincere desire to assist the Jewish masses to proceed to productive work, Mr. Billikopf stated. Dr. Rosen described to the press representatives the life of the Jewish settlers in the new colonies. Productive work is the only solution for Russian Jews. There is no way back, he declared.

Reuben Brainin, Hebrew writer and honorary vice-president of the Zionist Organization of America, who just returned from Russia, also addressed the conference. He stated that ninety-six percent of the Zionists in Russia are in favor of the Crimea colonization. The greatest achievement of the Joint Distribution Committee is the fact that the colonization movement, which started spontaneously among Russian Jews, did not break down, he stated.
