Scarlet Fever Epidemic in Poland Causes Anxiety

The scarlet fever epidemic which originated in Congress Poland, is reported to be spreading throughout the country, causing much concern to the authorities and the population.

Reports received from Lemberg and Vilna state that the epidemic has assumed an acute character there.

In Lemberg, the Jewish quarter in particular is a prey to the epidemic. City authorities have issued an ordinance to close for an indefinite period, all kindergartens, children’s homes and the Chedarim, the Jewish religious schools.

Kurt Peiser has resigned his position as Executive Director of the Federated Jewish Charities of Milwaukee to accept the superintendency of the United Jewish Social Agencies of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Alfred Frankenthaler was nominated by the Democratic party for Justice of the Supreme Court from New York County. Mr. Frankenthaler is active in the Order Free Sons of Israel, the Jewish Probation Society, Temple Emanu-El and the Federation of Jewish Charities.
