The difference of opinion between the Hebraists and the Yiddishists among the Jewish leaders in Poland was strikingly demonstrated in the town council of Pruzany.

The council considered a request submitted by a group of the Jewish population that a subsidy be granted for the Hebrew High School Yavneh. The motion was rejected by a majority vote which included four Jewish councillors who belong to the Yiddishist group.
