The first allotment for Jewish colonization work in Siberia was made by the Soviet Government.
The land given for this purpose is located in the Alieskey district. An area of 750 desiatin was set aside for settling fifty families. The soil is suitable for beet growing and sugar factories are located in the neighborhood.
The question whether or not the Jewish colonization work is conducive to increasing anti-Semitism was debated at a mock trial arranged in Nikolayeff by the Ozet, the Society for settling Jews on the land. Many non-Jews were present.
