Dead Sea and Hot Spring Concessions Soon to Be Granted, Commons Hears

The concessions for the exploitation of the Dead Sea and the hot springs in Tiberias will soon be granted, according to statements made yesterday by Col. Amery, British Colonial Secretary, in reply to questions in the House of Commons.

Answering the question of Col. Wedgwood, Amery stated that the Colonial Office will soon issue a statement concerning the agreement to be concluded with regard to the Dead Sea concession. Concerning the hot springs in Tiberias, the secretary stated that negotiations are now proceeding with the holders of the pre-war Turkish concession. The new lease will be granted for a period of forty years. The lesees will be compelled to erect and completely furnish within three years a thermal bath establishment. Maximum rates will be fixed by agreement with the government. After the expiration of the term of the lease, the buildings and the plant will become the property of the Palestine government.

David Kirkwood, Labor M.P. asked the Colonial Secretary whether the Dead Sea is located on the site of Sodom and Gemorrah. No reply was given to this question.

Replying to another question by Col. Wedgwood, Amery stated that the Palestine government has made no reduction in the immigration fee which is £ 1 for each person over sixteen. The Zionist Organization is not maintaining immigration camps but is only paying the cost of accommodation for immigrants under its auspices.
