New York U.p.a. Raised $1,360,913, Dinner Concluding Drive Hears

A total of $1,360,913.64 was raised in New York for the United Palestine Appeal, Morris A. Zeldin, director of the New York campaign announced at the dinner concluding the campaign at the Hotel Astor Tuesday night. The dinner was given in honor of Judge Otto A. Rosalsky, chairman of the Greater New York campaign, and Judge Mitchell May, chairman of the Brooklyn campaign. About 500 were present. Judge William M. Lewis, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, presided.

It was announced that the total for this year, which exceeds last year’s by $206,212, does not include trust funds of which the United Palestine Appeal is the beneficiary. Of the sum raised, approximately half a million represents Brooklyn’s contribution.

The sums raised in the various sections, follow: West Side, $105,080.84; Bensonhurst, $46,485.94; Boro Park, $67,945.31; Bronx, $99,015; Harlem and Yorkville, $82,024; Eastern Parkway, $65,671; South Brooklyn and Bay Ridge. $15,862; East New York, $27,061; Mount Vernon, $25,712; Staten Island. $5,000; Coney Island, $3,997; Manhattan Beach, $9,419; Sea Gate. $3,849; East Side, $85,375; Long Island, $101,443; Arverne, $10,835; Astoria, Corona and Long Island City, $3,038; Far Rockaway, $42,307; Flushing, $9,402; Freeport and Rockville Center, $4,000; Glen Cove, $450; Huntington, $1,498; Jamaica, 1,500; Long Beach. $1,400; Patchogue, $551; Richmond Hill, $3,962; Rockaway Park, $500; special Long Island Committee, $22,000; Flatbush, $60,929; Mapleton Park, $11,952; Williamsburgh, $74,096; Brownsville, $71,113; Mamaroneck. $2,500; Yonkers, $6,405; Washington Heights, $38,821; White Plains, $651; Special National Fund, $18,000; Fur Chest, $10,000; Special Committee, $100,000. Additional sums expected from campaigns in Long Island not yet conducted, $30,000.

The sum of $142,894 was raised by the Women’s Division of the. United Palestine Appeal, and $45,612 was raised by the Women’s League of the Keren Hayesod.

A radiogram was read from Dr. Chaim Weizmann, President of the World Zionist Organization, extending his felicitations to the workers of the United Palestine Appeal. The message read: “Please convey my warmest thanks to the loyal New York workers and generous contributors of the United Palestine Appeal. The General Council of the World Zionist Organization, now meeting in London is grappling with serious problems, but with confidence in the complete success of the Jewish National Home unshaken. American Jewry with New York in the lead, continues our mainstay in all new projects.”
