An answer to the appeal of David A. Brown, chairman of the Board of Finance, for financial support for the activities of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, has been made by Reform Congregations affiliated with the Union. It is estimated a minimum of one half million dollars will be needed to carry on the Union’s activities this year.
The Reform congregations of Chicago were among the first to answer Mr. Brown’s call, and under the leadership of Joseph Feuchtwanger, chairman of Zone 7 of the Board of Finance, have organized a committee to raise funds for support of the Union. An appeal has been issued to all congregations in Chicago asking for support. This appeal makes the statement that “The time has passed when we can discuss who should support the Union. There is great danger that the work will go to pieces if each congregation does not see its duty clearly and does not accept it cheerfully.”
The plan of the Chicago cougregations for the raising of its quota is to assess their members 10% of their dues to the local congregations.
Three Baltimore congregations, Congregation Keneseth Israel and Rodeph Shalom, Philadelphia, Temple Emeth of Ardmore, Okla., and the Hebrew Benevolent Congregation of Atlanta, were among those who have already taken steps to attain their share of the fund.
