Many Jewish workers and students in the capital of Lithtania were arrested last week on the charge of Communist activity.
The drastic measures against the radical wings of the labor movement were initiated in Lithuania with the advent of the present government, which came into power with the coup d’etat of the Waldemaras cabinet. This government has also introduced the court martial system which has caused wide protest in Eastern and Central Europe.
AARON SAPIRO SPEAKS AT “DAY” RADIO CONCERT
Aaron Sapiro was the principal speaker at a mass meeting and concert held at Carnegie Hall Monday night, under the auspices of “The Day.”
The mass meeting and concert concludes the season of radio broadcasting of Jewish music which has been given under the auspices of “The Day” during the last four months, through Station WMCA at the Hotel McAlpin.
The concert was held for the benefit of a vacation camp for the children of the East Side, Camp Vacamat, near Whiteport, N. Y.
CONFIRMATION EXERCISES HELD THROUGHOUT LAND
Hundreds of Jewish boys and girls will be confirmed in the classes of the religious schools throughout the United States and Canada at exercises to be held on the Sundays preceding and following the festival of Shavuoth.
UNION TEACHERS SEMINARY HOLDS COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES TOMORROW
The Hebrew Union College School for Teachers in New York City will hold its third Commencement Exercises tomorrow Light, at Temple Emanu-El, New York City.
Dr. Julian Morgenstern, president of the Hebrew Union College, will deliver the Commencement Address. His subject will be “Religious Education in Refrom Judaism.” Addresses will also be delivered by Dr. Samuel Schulman, chairman of the Joint Governing Committee of the School, and by A. N. Franzblau, principal of the school. Rabbi Maurice Thorner of Temple Beth-El of Jersey City, will deliver the Invocation and Rabbi Isaac Landman of Temple Israel of Far Rockaway will deliver the benediction.
Certificates will be awarded to twenty-nine men and women who have completed a two-year course of training for Sunday school teaching.
The exercises will mark the close of the fourth year of existence for the Hebrew Union College School for Teachers. Plans for the extension of the activities of the School and the increase of its course of study will beannounced by the Principal at the exercises.
