Avukah to Meet in Atlantic City, June 24

The second annual convention of the Avukah, American Student Zionist Federation, will be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Atlantic City, N. J., June 24-26, preceding the convention of the Zionist Organization of America.

More than 100 delegates, who will represent the 29 Avukah chapters in 40 universities and colleges are expected to attend the convention.

The Convention will be opened by Max Rhoade, national president of the Avukah.

A forum will be held on Friday evening, at which papers will be presented on “The American Jewish Student” by Rabbi Aaron Kessler of the University of Pennsylvania chapter; “The Hebrew Drama” by Dr. H. L. Gorden, President of the Kedem Hebrew Theatre Guild; “The Semitic Contribution to Civilization” by Julius Siegel, of the University of Pennsylvania Chapter; “Nationalism as a Philosophy of Jewish History” by Leo Schwartz of the Harvard Chapter.

A political forum, devoted to a discussion of the status of the Zionist Movement, will be held on Saturday. Gaalya Cornfeld will read a paper on “Romance and Reality in Palestine”. Chaim Greenberg, of the Zerei Zion, will speak on “The Zionist Labor Movement”. Reports will also be made at this session of the European student Zionist activity, including the K. J. V. of Germany, by Walter Phillipsthal and Dr. Morris Dreyfus; the situation in Russia, and the World Zionist Youth Conference held last Summer in Paris.

Rabbi Norman Salit will speak on “Avukah and Non-Zionist Jewish Student Organizations”. Dr. D. Bethlachmy on “The Study of Hebrew”, Samuel Dinin on “A Proposed Zionist Anthology” and W. B. Rudenko on “A Plan of Social-Cultural Activity” at Sunday’s sessions.
