Britain Should Preserve Palestine Antiquities Says Sir Flinders Petrie

The creation of a Palestine museum to preserve the antiquities of the country is the obligation of the mandatory power in the opinion of Sir Flinders Petrie famous British archaeologist who is advocating the idea of a Palestine Museum.

Writing today in the “Times”, Sir Flinders Petrie urges the establishment of a Palestine museum in London. “Britain is responsible for the management of Palestine,” he writes, “therefore it is under obligation to conserve its remains and history. There is not adequate spare space in the British Museum. The Palestine Exploration Society has a valuable collection in space incapable of receiving more. The important discoveries at Gerar by the expedition of the British School of Archaeology are now being shown at the London University. But the collection must be removed in a few weeks and it has no where to go.

“It is a thankless task for the excavators to struggle in their searches if the results of their investigations are not properly housed,” Sir Flinders declares.
