A wreath was deposited today on the grave of the victims of the recent riots which occurred in Vienna, by Jacob Lestchinsky. correspondent of the Jewish Daily “Forward” of New York, and well-known Jewish writer and statistician.
6.554 HOMELESS WERE SHELTERED BY HIAS
The Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America (Hias) has sheltered 6.554 wayfarers and homeless persons during the past year, and served them with 32.262 meals, according to a report made public today.
The Hachnosos Orchim, or the Shelter Department of Hias, the report states, is the only institution of this kind in Greater New York, and is made use of not only by New York organizations, but by agencies from all over the country, which refer to it wayfarers and travelers who are coming to New York and must be temporarily aided before they are able to settle themseves permanently.
