The formal dedication of the new synagogue of Congregation Keneseth Israel-Beth Sholom was concluded by the Dedication Sabbath services, Friday evening, and the Children’s Dedication Service Saturday morning, both of which were addressed by Rabbi Samuel M. Cohen of New York.
The week’s dedication ceremonies commenced Sunday evening, Rabbi Harry H. Mayer pronouncing the opening prayer Rabbi Herman M. Cohen, rabbi of the Congregation, followed with the Dedication Prayer of Solomon.
B. M. Achtenberg, president of the congregation, accepted the key of the new synagogue.
The dedication address was delivered by Rabbi Solomon Goldman of the Jewish Center, Cleveland, Ohio.
The new synagogue and school building represent an investment of $400,000. The architecture is a combination of the Byzantine and classical styles. There is an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,200 persons and a banquet room which can accommodate 500. The school contains sixteen class rooms, a library, a memorial chapel, the rabbi’s study and the administrative office of the congregation.
Rabbi Herman M. Cohen has been rabbi of the synagogue since 1919.
The congregation Keneseth Israel-Beth Sholom was formed in 1924 by a consolidation o the congregations Keneseth Israel and Beth Sholom.
