Altoona Jewish Community Subscribes $15,000 Toward Fund of Yeshiva College

This season’s drive to complete the $5,000,000 campaign for the erection of the Yeshiva College in New York City was inaugurated yesterday at Altoona, Pa., according to an announcement issued by Harris L. Selig, Executive Director of the Yeshiva College Building Fund.

The Jewish community of Altoona, Pa., which Mr. Selig visited in behalf of the campaign, adopted a quota of $15,000 for the Yeshiva College building fund at a meeting of Jewish leaders held at the Hotel Penn. Of this amount $5,000 was raised at the meeting. The remainder is expected to be subscribed at a dinner to be given on Sunday evening, October 23.

A Campaign Committee was organized consisting of representatives of all elements of the Jewish community. Jacob Berman is Honorary Chairman; Sol Brett, Chairman; Morris Lenson and Louis Nesselson. Vice Chairmen; Sam Berman, Treasurer; Sidney Miller, Secretary and Morris Henderson, Chairman of the Budget Committee.

The Yeshiva College campaign will be held soon in the cities of Detroit and Baltimore. The construction of the first group of buildings for the Yeshiva College for which the cornerstone was laid on May 1 is rapidly nearing completion. The campaigns to raise the allotted quota towards the fund are planned in various cities throughout the country, Mr. Selig announced.
