The campaign to raise San Francisco’s $280,000 quota in this year’s drive of the Jewish National Welfare Fund was launched today.
At a meeting of large donors, held last Thursday. Lloyd Dinkelspiel, campaign director, announced the quota for the drive, which will continue until October 8.
Rabbi Louis I. Newman, on behalf of the campaign committee, presented Moses A Gunst president, with an antique candlestick in appreciation for his services in the campaign.
The funds are to be distributed among 25 constituent agencies in the United States and abroad. Mr. Dinkelspiel explained. A budget committee to determine how the money shall he apportioned is operating under the chairmanship of Leo J. Rabinowitz.
A drive to raise $25,000 for the creation of a Jewish centre in Queens Village, N. Y. is being conducted.
A plot on Hollis Court Boulevard has already been purchased. The structure will include a synagogue, assembly symposium, and class rooms, and a swimming pool.
Edward Maas is president of the center. Dr. Philip Goldstein of the Jewish Welfare Board is directing the drive.

Beniamin S. Applestein was appointed Librarian of the City of Baltimore by Mayor William F. Broening Mr. Applestein was City Librarian in the first Broening administration nine years ago.
The new Metropolitan Yiddish Theatre in Cleveland was opened last night City Manager Honkins and Rabbi Solomon Goldman addressed the large audience.
