The Turkish Minister of Justice, Achmed Zaki, who passed through here on his way to Central Europe denied in a press interview today that the Turkish authorities or the Turkish people are planning a campaign of persecutions against the Jews in the country.
“It is true that words hostile to Jews on one side and expressions unfriendly to Turks on the other were uttered and that skirmishes occurred but it is ridiculous to assert that Turkey is embarking upon a course of anti-Semitic action,” he declared.
“The contrary is true. Turkey, of all the countries in the world, is the most friendly to the Jews. This was proven by the procedure of the Turkish administration of justice in the recent trial of nine Jews in connection with the funeral of the Jewish girl, Elsa Niego,” the minister stated.
