Jewish Communities in Posen and Pomerania Are Liquidated Due to Exodus

Emigration Due to Economic and Political Conditions; Chief Rabbi Moves to Preserve Tombstones (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

One hundred and twenty seven Jewish communities in Posen and Pomerania, the two provinces which were taken from Germany following the World war and incorporated in the new Polish Republic, have disappeared. Due to the emigration of the Jewish population from the Posen and Pomeranian towns the kchillahs have been liquidated. The emigration was due to economic pressure and the new political situation.

An effort is now being made by Chief Rabbi Freimann of Posen to preserve the tombstones of the Jewish cemeteries which constitute valuable records of the history of the Jewish communities in this region.
