M. Weinberg, Dr. Rongy and I. Rosenzweig Join Administration
Abraham Goldberg, whose candidacy to the administrative committee of the Zionist Organization of America was contested at the annual convention in Atlantic City by the Hadassah delegates, was re-elected to the Administrative Committee at the meeting of the Zionist national executive held Sunday at the Hotel Pennsylvania.
Mr. Goldberg’s re-election took place over the objections of Samuel Rosenson, chairman of the Finance Committee, Norvin Lindheim and Lawrence Berenson, the three members of the Zionist administration who opposed his election at the Atlantic City convention. To fill the four vacancies which had occurred in the administrative committee the following besides Mr. Goldberg were elected: Morris Weinberg, Irving Rosenzweig, and Dr. A. J. Rongy.
The Committee ignored the recommendation of the Administrative Committee which submitted a list of four names without Mr. Goldberg’s. Upon a motion from the floor a nominating committee was appointed by the chairman, Louis Lipsky. This committee brought in a slate including Mr. Goldberg. Fifty-six members of the committee participated in the vote which followed a heated debate and an appeal from the chair by Norvin Lindheim. Mr. Weinberg received 49 votes, Mr. Rosenzweig 46, Mr. Goldberg 42 and Dr. Rongy 39. The Hadassah delegate. Mrs. Julian, received 11 votes. Dr. Joseph Krimsky, who was also proposed, received 26 votes.
The Executive Committee listened to reports of the various activities of the Zionist Organization and to the steps taken by the administration toward consolidating the financial situation and wiping out the deficit. Following a heated debate the committee urged the Administrative Committee to reconsider the previous decisions concerning the withdrawal of subsidies to the cultural activities of the Zionist. Organization, including Young Judea, the Hadoar, the only Hebrew weekly in the United States, and the Avukah, Zionist student organization. The Jablonner Rebbe addressed the committee.
