Severe anti-Jewish excesses, resulting in many injuries, took place in Janowa, near Kovno, Lithuania.
Officers and privates of the Lithuanian army perpetrated the excesses which lasted during the past week. The complaints of the local community to the government have had no effect.
Building operations for the new Beth El temple. Harrisburg, Pa. will begun this month.
The temple will be built of stone and brick and the main floor and balcony will have a seating capacity of 1000.
The Charity Chest of the Fur Industry will have distributed $470,000 to charitable institutions by the end of the year, according to its annual report. The money distributed by the Charity Chest represents a 27 per cent, increase over the distribution for 1926. which amounted to $370,000. This year’s appropriations will have benefited 874 institutions, as against 849 in 1926.
“The hulk of the money,” the report states, “will go to institutions in New York and vicinity, without regard to racial or religious distinctions.” Causes all over the world have been made beneficiaries in the 1927 donations.

A contract has been awarded by the Philadelphia Federation of Jewish Charities for the erection of an educational center building at an estimated cost of $122,000.
Plans for the proposed structure were prepared by Edwin S. Rothschild.
