Jewish Studies Society is Formed in Roumania

A Society for Jewish Studies was formed in Roumania, the members including Senator Dr. Nie-mirover, Chief Rabbi of Bucharest, Rabbi Zirelson, Chief Rabbi of Bessarabia, Dr. A. J. Mark, Chief Rabbi of Czernowitz, Dr. M. Eisner, Chief Rabbi of Ciuj, and Dr. I. Singer, Chief Rabbi of Temesvar.

The Society is concentrating mainly on the history and folklore of the Jews in Old Roumania and the new Roumanian provinces. The first volume of proceedings of the Society will soon be published.

Ragbi Abraham J. Feldman, of Congregation Beth Israel, of Hartford, will debate on Monday evening with Dr. Lothrop Sloddard, of Boston, on the question of “Has Immigration of the Last Fifty Years Been an Asset or Liability to the United States” at a meeting of the Hartford Get-Together Cltb of which State Commissioner of Education Dr. A. B. Meredith is president.

Dr. Stoddard is the author of several books stressing the “Nordic” theory, such as “The Rising Tide of Color”.

The presiding officer of this debate will be Professor G. A. Kleene, of Trinity College.

Edward C. Stokes, former Governor of New Jersey, Frederick W. Donnelly, Mayor of Trenton, Superintendent of Trenton Schools William J., Biekett Assistant United States District Attorney Philip Forman will be the speakers at a banquet to be tendered Sunday evening to Rabbi Issachar Levin. The banquet will follow the installation of Rabbi Levin as chief rabbi of the United Synagogues of Trenton, which include the congregations Brothers of Israel, Workers of Truth, Lovers of Israel and People of Truth.
