A resolution calling upon United States Congress to protest against the treatment accorded by Roumania to its Jewish population and other religious minorities and to take steps for the severance of diplomatic relations with Roumania unless she “mends her ways,” was introduced in the State Senate by Bernard Downing, minority leader. The resolution declares that the conduct of Roumania stigmatizes her as “an outlaw among nations.”
Senator Downing wanted immediate consideration of his resolution, but President pro tem. Knight made objection, and it was sent to the Judiciary Committee under the rule.
Senator Downing’s resolution to memorialize Congress in favor of modification of the immigration laws to permit the admission outside of the quota of wives and children of aliens who reside in this country and have declared their intention of becoming citizens, was also referred to the committee.
