Hungarian Minister Makes Statement to Dispel Charges of Insincerity (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The amended numerus clausus law, even if carried as the government desires, will make no change in favor of the Jewish students in the country, Count Klebelsberg, Minister of Education, stated today in an interview with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here.
The bill for the amendment of the of law will come up before parliament early in February. “In view of the charges of insincerity made against the Hungarian government, I wish to declare that we do not intend to raise false hopes,” Count Klebelsberg stated to the interviewer. “I state openly that the amended numerus clausus will make no change in favor of the Jewish students. We have reached the last frontier which we dare not cross,” the Minister added.
The speaker of the Hungarian parliament announced that a discussion on the bill in a full session of the House will take place this month. The debate which is expected to be very lively will last several days.
