S. Gordon, 60 years of age, and his wife arrived from America at Jaffa on board the steamer “Sinaia” as first class passengers having a visa as tourists. They were prevented from landing by the Immigration Officer although they proved that they have a deposit of £1,848 in Barclays Bank and £200 with them.

The reason given for their non-admittance was that when Mr. Gordon was asked whether he intended to remain permanently in Palestine, he answered in the affirmative adding that he would apply for permission in due course. The Immigration Officer held that he was guilty of giving wrong information and refused to allow him to land.

The Haifa Jewish Communal Council has adopted a resolution protesting against the action of the immigration authorities in this matter.
