Jewish immigrants entering Canada during 1927 numbered 4,815, according to the annual report of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada, just made public here.
Three hundred and ninety-four steamers were met at Quebec. Halifax and St. John by representatives of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada. Most of these immigrants were provided with food and shelter before they reached their final destinations. Two thousand and twelve Kosher meals were served at the headquarters in Montreal alone. Thousands of meals and nights of shelter were given these newly-arrived at the various branches throughout the Dominion of Canada. Hundreds of immigrants were placed in employment.
In 53 cases appeals from exclusion of immigrants were presented and argued before the Department of Immigration and Colonization; 48 of these were granted admission to Canada. In 14 cases the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada guaranteed to the department that the immigrants would not become public charges. The Jewish arrivals during the year 1927 were distributed by provinces as follows: Quebec 1.807, Outario 2053, Nova Scotia 31, New Brunswick 11, Manitoba 460, Saskatchewan 191, Alberta 93, British Columbia 94 and Newfoundland 1.
