Cornerstone for Straus Health Center is Laid in Tel Aviv Amid Ceremonies

In the presence of ?,000 persons Col. George S. Symes, chief Secretary of the Palestine Government, laid the cornerstone for the Nathan and Lina Straus Health Center. Col. Symes characterized the philanthropist is the “living embodiment of the spirit of charity” and declared that the health enter for all, irrespective of race and reed, is a fitting memorial to the Grand Old Man.

Chaim Nachman Blalik, Dr. Bluestone, ?ead of the Hadassah medical organization, Miss Henrietta Szold, American member of the Palestine Executive and Mayor Bloch on behalf of the Tel Aviv municipality were the speakers. M. Dizngoff, former mayor of Tel Aviv, spoke to behalf of the Jaffa municipality and the Vaad Leumi, the national council of Palestine Jews. Colonel Heron represented the government Health Department.

Sir Alfred Mond, who is now visiting Palestine, was present at the cornerstone laying ceremonies.

Dr. Bluestone stated that during the last thirteen years, Nathan Straus had contributed a million dollars to Palestine. Mayor Bloch announced that the municipality had decided to change the name of the street on which the health center is being erected to Straus Street.
