The plan for securing a loan with the aid of the League of Nations for the World Zionist Organization to promote the Jewish colonization work in Palestine was discussed with leading statesmen of Jugoslavia by Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the Zionist Executive, who is now on a visit here.
The Zionist leader was received by the Jugoslavian Prime Minister, Vuicevic, Foreign Minister Sumenkovix, the British Ambassador Kennard, and the United States Minister, Dr. John Prince.
It was stated here that the first government which has declared its willingness to guarantee a part of the loan to the amount of £ 250,000 was the government of France. The German government would also participate in the guarantee and it is hoped that the British government will guarantee from three quarters to one million pounds of the projected loan.
PAST I.O.B.B. PRESIDENTS TO BE FETED AT DINNER SUNDAY
Two hundred past presidents of the Independent Order B’nai Brith lodges of New York City, forty vice-presidents and the heads of the women’s auxillaries of the lodges will be the guests of Maurice Bloch, President of District No. 1, at a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria on Sunday evening, March 18.
This dinner is part of President Bloch’s program to strengthen the order in New York City. Dr. Stephen S. Wise, a past president of New York Lodge No. 1, will be the principal speaker. Another speaker will be Maurice P. Davidson, Chairman of the Wider Scope Committee of District No. 1.
Among the past presidents invited by Assemblyman Bloch are Nathan Straus, Joseph E. Newburger, Myron Sulzberger, Joseph S. Schwab, Samuel L. Hochstadter, Albert Cohn, Henry W. Unger Henry W. BROOKLYN’S U. P. A. FUND IS INCREASED BY $60,000
The sums being raised for the United Palestine Appeal in Brookyln, which is headed by Judge Grover M. Moscowitz, chairman, and Judge Mitchell May, honorary chairman, were increased by $60,000 at a banquet held Sunday, March 11, at Temple Petach Tikvah, Brownsville, where Senator William King of Utah, and Dr. Schmarya Levin were the principal speakers.
The banquet marked the launching of the Brownsville United Palestine Appeal campaign, of which Morris A. Zeldin is campaign chairman, and Samuel Barnett, president.
Other sections in Broklyn are also opening their local drives for United Palestine Appeal quotas with dinners. The Borough Park section will hold its campaign dinner at the Brooklyn Union Temple on March 25, at which Dr. Stephen S. Wise will be guest of honor, Preliminary plans for the dinner will be made at a meeting on Sunday morning, March 18, at which Isaac Ipp, chairman and Isidore Lassner will present reports of advance pledges.
The Eastern Parkway division of the United Palestine Appeal, under the chairmanship of Jacob Goell, will hold their dinner on March 28, at which Dr. Chaim Weizmann will be guest of honor. The Committee in East New York are arranging a function on March 24 to launch the local campaign, according to Jacob H. Cohen, campaign chairman. The Long Island section of the Greater New York United Palestine Appeal campaign will tender a dinner to Dr. Weizmann on March 25 at the Jewish Center, Far Rockaway. The dinner is being arranged by Charles Kramer, and John L. Liebowitz who is chairman of the Far Rockaway Appeal.
