The painting of “The Opening of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem” by Leopold Pilichowski, noted Jewish artist, was placed on view with 150 other works of the artist, at the Plaza Hotel, Sunday.
The exhibition which is being sponsored by a committee of prominent Jews and Sir Esme Howard, British Ambassador to the United States, and Jan de Ciechanowski, Polish Ambassador, will continue until April 8.
The canvas of the Hebrew University opening depicts the ceremonies held on April 1, 1925. Notables, including Sir Herbert Samuel, Lord Allenby. Dr. Chaim Weizmann, Nahum Sokolow, are grouped about Lord Balfour, who is seen delivering the inaugural address. Hundreds of portraits are included in the painting of the entire assembly at the exercises. The picture required two years for completion.
