Cecil B. De-Mille’s “King of Kings” will be presented in Boston beginning next Monday night according to an announcement made by the management. No protests have been made by any of the Jewish organizations here.
The publication of the Black List by the Daughters of the American Revolution in addition to the threat of closing the Ford Hall Forum has aroused great interest in the Jewish community of Boston. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Professor Felix Frankfurter who assisted in an advisory capacity in the Sacco-Vanzetti case, Rabbi Harry Levi of Boston, are some of the prominent Jews black listed by the D. A. R. In addition to these prominent names, among the Jewish organizations who are on the black list, it was made known are the Council of Jewish Women and the League of Jewish Women. The purpose of this list. according to Miss Helen Tufts Bailie, is to keep certain speakers out of the D. A. R. meetings in Massachusetts.
The discussion as to the closing of the Ford Hall Forum has even aroused greater interest among a large section of the Boston Jewish community. Hundreds of Jewish men and women, have filled Ford Hall on Sunday nights which has become the Mecca for those who have sought an opportunity for hearing discussions on various problems. It is no secret that the majority of the attendance at Ford Hall are Jews. The funds for the forum in the past have been provided for by the Baptist Social Union. The leader of the forum, George W. Coleman, is at present on a world tour and in his absence David K. Niles is making a brave fight for the life of the forum. A number of prominent Jews are on the Forum Advisory Board.
The Moscow Habimah appeared here last night at the Boston Opera House in “Jacob’s Dream,” a play in three acts. It was the only performance given in Boston, held under the auspices of the Boston Junior Hadassah. Prominent Jews and non-Jews attended the performance which netted several thousand dollars for the Junior Hadassah. Miss Frances Lesser, president, expressed appreciation to the community for the support given for making possible Habima’s appearance in this city. Nachum Zemach appeared as Adom and Art Kutal as Jacob. In spite of the fact that the overwhelming number of those in attendance did not understand the language in which the play was presented, appreciation was shown by the audience, which at the closing of the last act acclaimed the presentation with much enthusiasm.
Some of the oppositional leaders in the Zionist movement here have called a conference at the City Club to make plans to support the movement to oust the present administration in the Zionist Organization of America.
United States Ambassador Alexander P. Moore will make his first appearance in the interest of the Zionist cause at Lynn, Mass. on Sunday afternoon. April 15 according to an announcement made by Henry Yozell, chairman of the United Palestine Appeal Committee. Mr. Moore recently purchased the Boston Sunday Advertiser. Rabbi Irving Miller of Chelsea will also speak at a reception arranged in honor of the Ambassador at the Pythian Temple.
Dr. Sol. H. Rubin was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Tufts Alumni Association at the annual meeting held a few days ago. Dr. Rubin is one of the frist Jews to be named on this Committee.
