Contributions and pledges totaling nearly $5,000 were made toward the work of the Hillel Foundations of the Independent Order B’nai Brith at a luncheon to Judge Grover M. Moscowitz, of Brooklyn, given by Hugo Piesen at the Hotel Granada.
Judge Moscowitz in his address stated that the Hillel Foundations were breaking up prejudices of Jews against other Jews, and causing Jewish students proudly to acknowledge their origin.
Other speakers at the luncheon were Hugo H. Piesen. Dr. Alexander Lyons, Maurice P. Davidson, chairman of the New York Wider Scope Committee of the I.O.B.B., Professor A. Broderick Cohen, chairman of the Brooklyn Committee, and Dr. Boris D. Bogen, executive secretary of the I.O.B.B. The honorary chairman for Brooklyn is Judge Edward Lazansky.
Maurice P. Davidson, chairman of the New York Wider Scope Committee, announced yesterday that B’nai Brith lodges, and women’s auxiliaries in the Metropolitan area are making treasury contributions to the Wider Scope Fund.
New York Lodge No. 1, voted $2,500 on motion of Judge Myron Sulzberger, following an address by Rabbi Leo Jung on the work of Hillel Foundations. The Women’s Auxiliary of New York Lodge, at a subsequent meeting voted $1,000.
Organization of a Bronx Committee of the Wider Scope Campaign of the Independent Order B’nai Brith has been effected. The committee was formed at a dinner given by Judge Albert Cohh to a group of Jewish leaders of that borough at the Concourse Plaza Hotel Addresses on the work of the Order and especially the Hillel Foundation were made by Commissioner Albert Goldman, Rabbi Irving L. Reichert, Chief Assistant District Attorney Israel Adlerman, Assemblyman Julius Price and Dr. Boris D. Bogen, national director of the Independent Order B’nai Brith.
