American Jewish Congess to Mark 10th Anniversary

The tenth anniversary of the American Jewish Congress is to be observed at a dinner on Sunday, April 22, at the Hotel Astor. Representatives of the organizations affiliated with the Congress, many of whom attended the first conference in Philadelphia in 1918, will be present.

Dr. Stephen S. Wise, President of the American Jewish Congress, Aaron Sapiro, Max D. Steuer, Louis Lipsky, Max Silverstein, Professor Mordecai M. Kaplan, Rabbi Louis I. Newman, Sol C.Kraus, Carl Sherman, Major Julius I. Peyser of Washington, D.C. and Judge Hugo Pam of Chicago will be the speakers.

The dinner will be preceded by a meeting of the Executive Committee of the American Jewish Congress, which will also be held at the Hotel Astor. Reports of recent activities will be presented by Dr. Wise, Mr. Sherman, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the American Jewish Congress, and Bernard G. Richards, Executive Secretary.

J. D. Kaplan of Boston, Mass., was named Special Associate Justice of the Dorchester District Court by Governor Fuller.

The Governor’s Counell meeting next Thursday will confirm the nomination. Mr. Kaplan is a graduate of Harvard Law School and is active in district service work and the Federated Jewish Charities. He was associated with Justice Lonis D. Brandeis before the latter’s appointment to the United States Supreme Court.
