Because of the continuous dispute between the Yiddishists and Hebraists both insisting that the language they champion should be dominant in the cultural activities; the Jewish Cultural Council was split. The Council is functioning under the provisions of the Government law granting the Jewish population of the Republic the autonomous administration of its cultural and religious affairs.
The Yiddishists and the Poale Zionists, laborites, seceded from the administration of the Council, declaring that they will abstain from the new elections, having no confidence in an administration composed of the two elements. The meeting broke up in tumult and fighting among the members of the Council.
The Jewish public is greatly disturbed over the lengths to which the language dispute has gone.
